Low range diff issue
Discussion
OK, my low range keeps popping out (manual box) on my classic Range Rover.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
(Took Bob out today - he is seriously impressive. Amazing bit of kit. But was shocked at the thoughtlessness of a certain South coast club - blocking two lanes for over half an hour, just standing around, rather than getting one clear for everyone else. Looked like a carpark...)

I don't know if it's the same (I've got a Disco II), but if it is, you need to get under and lubricate the movement of the Hi-Low lever. My Disco had never seen mud until I bought it, and the lever was very stiff. It didn't travel far enough to fully engage, and was regularly slipping out of gear (in both hi and low). A good dose of grease sorted it, and the lever travels just a bit further in each direction - and locks properly in place.

This could well be it. When Low range is selected, a portion of the selector shaft which sits outside the transfer box has to move inside, and its this external part that gets all corroded and prevents correct selction.Gassing Station | Off Road | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
