I'm looking for some new tyres for my 110.

AT pattern but really looking for good snow and ice performance as well as good road manners.

My experiences are as follows:

AT2 on a Disco 2, superb in snow and ice, fine on the road. Anyone got any experience of the new grabber AT in snow?

BFG AT on a Defender, snow-flake rated but no experience in snow and ice, ok on grassy fields, crap on wet roads.

KL71 on a Shogun. Great in snow, ok on road, crap on ice.

BFG MT on an XJ, crap on everything expect mud and thick soft snow.

Last winter we had snow/ice on the ground for 5 months and we're 3 miles from the nearest road that gets cleared regularly so snow performance is vital.

I'll be using it on woodland tracks, grassy fields and tarmac, rarely in mud.

So, anyone got direct experience of grabber at2 vs at in snow? Anyone tried the pirelli scorpion M+S tyres? Are they any good on wet roads and ice?

Not much of a fan of bfg i must admit.

I don't want 2 separate sets of wheels/tyres and i don't want all-out winter tyres becase of my summer mileage and other off-road use.

Obviously i realise that all tyres are a compromise but ice/snow performance then road use are my priorities.

Ta!

Yeah, like i said, we had them on a disco and they were great. They're being replaced by a new directional AT that looks to have fewer sipes which worries me with regard to their winter performance.

Anyone tried them! All the online reviews focus on road, mud and grass. grumpy

The General AT2 is a fantastic All Terrain tyre, I have many, many very happy customers, I use them on all my 4x4's.

Most sizes of General AT2 are being replaced by the new General AT, this is because of new EU tyre noise regulations, all tyre makers will have to follow.

There are a few AT2 sizes being kept along side the new AT as follows, 235/75x15, 225/75x16 and 265/75x16, as far as I know.

So the 265/75x16 will do your 90's and 110's, on a 110 you would have to look at the lock stops or fit a 30mm spacer as what I have done.

The new General AT tyre's are very good and are made in a large amount of sizes including 17", 18", 19" and 20" to suite most makes of 4x4. They are proving to be very popular with very good feedback so far.

It's a great shame the now old AT2 is coming to an end as I for one have 100% trust in this tyre, you can mix AT2 with AT in pairs so we are told.

There is still good stock of most 16" AT2's, you just have to look.

I have tucked away a few of the sizes we use so we don't get caught out in the near future.

I've got the new grabbers on my Disco 3 GS with 17" wheels, very good in the snow. Went through some midway up the doors no issues whatsoever. Seem pretty good on ice too. Surprisingly good on road, pretty quiet.

A bit of advice, if you find the AT2's you need, try and get five so at least you have a back up.

Nothing wrong with the new AT, proving to be very popular.

I have the new AT.
It's been very good so far.
Good in the snow.
Good on shoot tracks.
Good at a pay and play site.
No change to road manners.

last winter I had AT2s on my L200, absolutely great
now I've got a Navara with BFG ATs on it, also good

also been knocking around recently in a Grand Cherokee (WJ) with Goodyear Wranglers (pretty much a fully road biased version) and that was fine, and also a Wrangler (TJ) running on BFG MTs and it was great

Iain,

Are the bfg AT's ok on wet roads? The ones i had were maybe old (on a landie when i bought it) but they were absolutely dreadful.

Cheers,
Iain

Andy, this has got me a bit worried about availabilty of AT2's, i got 4 for mine last year and i love them, also looks like there gonna last me a few more years so i don't want to trash one and end up with odd tyres, have General stopped making them now? I think i'm gonna order one at the end of the month when i get paid, do you have any 255/65/R16 (Think that's the size, Discovery TD5?), if so would you be able to PM me a price for one delivered to Leeds.

Very sorry to say that the 255/65x16 General AT2 has been out of stock for some time now and the only General All Terrain tyres coming through are the new AT, as I said if you can find any grab them ASAP.

For me as a tyre dealer it's a real pain as we only find out when we re-order, if any AT2's are around I will do my best to get hold of them, put's me in a differcult postion sometimes, especially when you sell four tyres on a Friday and the customer damages one on the weekend and comes back to replace it and you have to say, "sorry no longer available".

Lefty,

The General AT2 is a better tyre in the wet than the BFGoodrich AT KO.

Andy.

It performs very well, and judging by the feedback from customers there is little difference.

I hope next week to put a set of 265/65x17 on our Landcruiser which has had AT2's on for 20,000+ miles, that way we will know the good and bad 1st hand.

Andy.
