My gearbox is ****ed...and HOW much did you say?
Discussion
So the automatic transmission on my Landcruiser Prado has been playing up... took it into the dealer...who confirmed it was indeed playing up. Estimate for repairs up to 8,000 USD!
Ouch almighty!
Anybody got a secondhand Prado gearbox they want to sell?
Wife is unconvinced that my sinking the car in a river is completely unconnected and so it is currently 'my fault' too.

what are the symptons on the box- there aren't that many things that can go wrong-- could be as simple as a dodgy solenoid or needing an oil change- what colour and smell is the oil. Should be clear and light red.

Cheers - the symptoms are loss of drive, then sudden lurching, then almost complete loss of drive. I have had the transmission fluid changed twice in the last year, once after I dunked the car as a preventative measure and once when it started to feel a bit funny a couple of weeks ago. Almost suspect the first garage filled it with the wrong fluid or something.
Dealer estimates - $9,000 to repair transmission or $16,000 to replace it! Looks like when I had the transmission fluid changed (as a precaution in case I had got water into it, oh the bitter taste of irony) the garage used the wrong grade. fking bd fkwits.
Anyway looking to get a second-hand transmission dropped in for $3,000. Fingers crossed.
