I currently own a 2001 Range Rover HSE 4litre V8, this was brought from a trader a few months ago and has had some major issues. It is looking like the trader will be resolving these soon to the cost of nearly 2.5k
In the mean time I have purchased a jeep grand cherokee 2002 4.7V8 both cars similar mileage and similar value question is what one stays.
Range rover is slightly better on fuel, and will have had a load of work carried out on it. You arrive places in the rangie and it is mega comfy to get about in. It has how ever always had advisiories on the past mot's.
Jeep is lightning quick for what it is and handles much better but is pricey to run but has no niggles at all.
I am going to get which ever one converted to lpg when the funds are released from selling the other one.
Or final option is sell both and get a diesel, for about 8k but what, if I want luxury then its going to be fairly slow but then if its going to be slow I might get a tricked up defender to green lane in.
Hence I could do with some suggestions
Cheers

The RR will always be costly to maintain. I had one for 9 years, and i never stopped putting my hand in my pocket. The Jeep on the other hand is very, very reliable. But parts back up from Jeep dealers in the UK is crap. But no fear. You can order parts through Rockautos.com in the states. They put some major main dealers to shame in this country with there prompt delivery.
If it was me having owned a RR,and as nice as it is when they are running right i would go for the Jeep.

i own a 4ltr auto jeep fantastic drive cant fault it 22 miles to a gallon but there prone to diff and bearing trouble but easy to repair parts are easy to get but can cost, but there are plenty of breakers out there i use this for towing my challange truck
i own a defender 90 turned into a full challange truck race tuned v8 no that only does 7 miles to a gallon but i still drive it on road, get a defender at least it can be used for on and offroad just put some rangie seats in it, if you get a td5 make sure you upgraid the electrics as its a common fault for leaking oil into the loom very cheap parts from paddock spares in matlock and easy to repair your self so youll save on repair bills

I have alway been an LR fan but bought a '97 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 5 years ago. It was utterly reliable - except for the LPG system Parts were not too bad pricewise and I always delt with Lighthouse Jeep (01953.681237) though they only deal by phone were always quick and carried stock.
With my experience I would go with the Grand Cherokee but be careful who and what LPG system you go for. Also LPG prices continue to climb (90p/l in places) and factor in petrol usage. When LPG system retailers do the calculation on your future reduced fuel costs they always ignore the cost of pterol to get the engine running and up to temp for the LPG system to switch over on modern sequential LPG systems.

Cant go wrong with the V8 jeep (Ok you can, you can sell it) I got around 20 - 22 mpg (imperial gallons - the screen is US mpg so add 20%) during normal driving. Hammer it and the mpg is a disaster, but it is quick enough without too many revs. I did the sums on an LPG conversion and it didnt work for me.
