hi guys, i'm in the process of convincing myself to give up french go kart hatches and start this off roading lark.

sooo........i'm after some advice on cars. i'm leaning towards a DIEsel disco 1 but TBH i haven't got a clue on what i want need.

my budget is £1000-£1800. i would like something relitivly civilised on road, decentish mpg, easy to work on and cheapish to modify to make better offroad.

i know thats asking alot but i'm greedy wink

thanks in advice in advance guys.

A grand will get you a solid enough D1 in virtually any engine spec (200, 300, or V8) and a whole host of other stuff.....Suzuki SJ, early Toyotas, Lada Niva etc.
Thing is, you're in the price bracket that carries all the garbage, scrap and utter dogs that just eat up money.
Shop around, lots. If you find a wagon and like it, but there's just one tiny thing wrong with it or not to your liking....walk away. There are LOADS out there.
Avoid anything with stupid modifications done to the previous owner's spec and go instead for something and neat, straight and original as possible. That way you're painting on a blank canvas instead of brushing over someone else's "art".
Don't go throwing money at it as soon as you get it either. Modification is more of an evolution than an event, and you'll only know what you need to fettle, tweak or replace once you've had the vehicle for a while. Nothing sucks more than spending loads of time and money on shiny bits that prove utterly worthless the first time you come unstuck, at the expense of other simpler stuff.
And before you go buying, have you tried going along as a passenger on someone else's day out?

Thanks for that dude. Dispite was the gf says I'm actually quite sensible now and I certainly wouldn't be chucking loads of bits on straight away, probs just some decent tyres.

Luckily (or not) the NE offroad/4x4 club meets in the pub less than 1/2 mile down from me. Ideal fr trying to bung a lift.

The reason I have such a low budget was to ensure that if I did get into it I don't want to be bashing up a (to me) an expensive car.

Thanks again buddy
