Morning folks,

I've asked this on the Opie thread but since you folk on here are a friendly bunch (most of the time smile ) I thought i'd as here too.

My '96 Cherokee states Mopar Power Steering fluid. I've read up not to use Auto Transmission fluid but does anyone know what 'normal' PAS fluid I can use? The local spares agent computer says 'refer to manual' and the manual just says Mopar.

cheers gang,

Nik

Mopar from your local Jeep dealer.

Well i'd rather avoid paying for a nose amputation at my local Jeep dealer. I'm sure the Mopar stuff isn't some mystical creation that only Jeep is aware of.

I asked the same question of 2 or 3 Jeep specialists when I needed some for my 1998 Cherokee and all said it was a special Mopar fluid. IIRC it was about £12 a litre frown. Worth checking ebay, I sold my unused stuff cheap there. Or asking on Birty Dastards to see if anyones got some spare/cheap.

IIRC alternatives can be used if you drain and flush the system of the jeep stuff in there, its not compatible with most AM fluids readily available.

Cheers, I've had a nose on Birty Dastards and there are a few different ideas. I've gone with some dedicated PAS fluid (Non AT) and given it a wee top up. We'll see if it was a bad move in about 12 months biggrin
