Hi Thought it best to come over here to ask some advice on grand Cherokee’s. Looking for a daily driver to replace my old Volvo as its mot time for it soon and will take £500+ to get through it, and it has 190k on it so may be time for a change. Been looking at 4.0l petrol/LPG ones age around 1998-2000 wanting to spend 2.5k max . I do around 5k a year i need a big car for towing and the space for my bike.i wont be doing much Offroading just the odd track and up north in the snow but thats about it.

These look like good big comfortable cars, So what can you tell me about them cheers in advance.

Hint - look at the mpg between the V8 4.7 and the V6 4.0, the look at the power outputs.

Avoid the 3.1 diesel.

The european market V8 GC is a 4.7, the 5.2 (318ci) and 5.9 (360ci) are Dodge engines and only available in US spec GC's

I've owned several 4.0L GC's and C's and a 4.7GC, personally the 4.7 later shape is a nice bit of kit, pulls well and cruises well, the 4.0l does everything asked but as a straight 6 is a lot more revvy and needs to be 'driven'.

As for MPG between the 4.0 and 4.7 there's really nothing in it, best bet is go drive a 4.0 & 4.7 and see which one you prefer...

I had the 4.0 and the 4.7. Get the 4.7. Similar mpg, much more grin factor, better looking car. Great cars. Expect 20 mpg, 25 on motorway runs if you keep it steady.

I run a '99 4.7 Grand that I paid around about your budget for (figures and pics on my profile thing)

In the past I've also had a '96 4.0 Grand and both a Range Rover classic and a P38
The 4.7 GC is the best of the lot on fuel and the nicest to drive.

I would have another with no worries. Go for it OP you won't regret it.

I just bought a 4.7 on Saturday. Only paid £1700 for it but it's a high miler (172k). Some of the most comfortable seats you'll find and the difference in MPG between the 4.0 and the 4.7 seems almost insignificant but the V8 goes a lot better and doesn't need to be worked so hard. Plus it makes quite a nice noisesmile
