Hi all

i am looking at CB starter kits and mainly at Mag Mounted aerials. I have two choices in the pack I am looking at.

0.89m (2-5 miles) or 1.55m (5-10 miles)

Obviously, this won't take into account terrain etc, so the distances will be well shortened!

Now, my question is, would shorter be more suited to off roading as their is less snagging worry, or would I need the extra length in the average leicestershire countryside?

There is no cost difference, for info.

Cheers

CB radios suck, unles you are in a group offroad. Or indeed at a pay and Play site, when most of the marshalls can be summoned to save you getting your carpet shoes muddied...

If I ever turn the radio on in the Mog, it is almost without fail full of people effing and jeffing about nothing at all.

This was it's intended use, you know, in an "off road" forum. hehe

It was a reply to the post above, didn't think I'd need to quote...You'll fit right in with your CB smile

We go off-roading or green laning in groups of a few cars and the CB is extremely handy in these situations. We always stick to a certin channel away from 19 and change if someone else is using it. I would assume that the higher range will always be better and most arials will have a springy bit at the bottom so are OK for most off roading.

I went for larger one and it hits off everything, mounted on a wing mirror mount on the roof bars. Would go smaller and not a mag mount. THey can get knocked off when off roading and end up swinging around and through your window! Plus if its a disco the roof is ali and it wont stick!

Eltax,

What starter kit you going for? Looking for one myself and don't really want to spend a fortune. Will need up to about a 5 mile range and likely mag mount on roof.

That's what bullbars are for! I had the aerial on my D1 fitted to the bullbar & never a problem there. It was about 1.5m & couldn't quite reach the screen.
