Purchased myself a 2.8 TD fourtrak for 250 quid, one months tax and text, needs some serious work to the drivers side chassis leg at the front where the spring hanger is as it has rotted and split from both the cross member and the leg itsself!!!

think im going to have to graft a replacement chassis leg-end onto it. in theory this should be all it needs to get it ready for test as the rest of it is spot on!

just in the process of stripping the front end down to provide better access to the affected area, next step is to decide weather to have a go myself (my brother can weld and has a mig welder) or pay someone to weld on a replacement spring hanger and chassis leg end. or go the whole hog and get someone to fabricate me the piece i need and have it welded on!

im going to persevere with it as i really think its worth the graft! and plus its the rare F70 model with live axles front and rear and leaf springs! none of this rubbish independant front suspension malarky!

anyway here's a pic i took today after starting to strip it down.

Wooo! Welcome to the fourtrak club, I have an F75 TDX (theres a foto on here somewhere.)

I hope you'll enjoy yours as much as i have mine. Bloodredoffroad are a good place to get in touch with likewise milners off road / japanese4x4spares for spares/parts etc.

Are you going to fabricate a winch bumper to go on? If so would love to see some pics, bloodred do one which looks tempting but id also like to find a way to combine with some protection for front underneath.

cheers dave

thanks for the tips for parts etc, ill definately be fabricating some sort of bumper for the front end as the exsting ones mounting brackets were rotten, syaing that though, that tubular winch bumper on blood red looks good for the price! first things first though i need to crack on and fabricate my bits to rectify the issue with the front spring hanger!

Hi Tommy,

Not sure what else you have planned for your fourtrak - but plans for mine are - new leafs + bushes all round - new shocks with extra travel (extending breaklines,) replacing front bumper to include winch (combined with underbody protection,) bigger wheel/tyre combination at some point.

To be honest, thats about as much as im willing to put into the fourtrak for now, ive got too many other projects on the go at the moment in terms of house, mx5 and classic sailing dinghy to rebuild (not to mention little one due on 21st Dec.)

Next up having dispatched some of those i think im going to custom build an off roader - along the lines of some of the "moon buggy" types that you see -

hmmmm, think a welding course beckons first.

cheers dave

I'm also a recent Fourtrak owner. Absolutely love bouncing around in it, it's almost as much fun as the MX-5 in a way. Rather embarrassingly though, mine has remained on the road so far as I can't seem to find anybody to go off road with!

(hint: anyone in the Nottinghamshire area...?) biggrin

Hi All,

Seeing as we are feeling the Fourtrak ‘love’ I thought I would share some of my latest purchase, another F70 that’s having some work done on it before I get my greasy mitts on it, plus I’m looking for a few bits you guys might be able to help with!

I’m currently missing both side repeaters and the front nearside indicator/sidelight

It’s also a bit rusty around the rear arches, do any of you know if replacement panels are available so I can reduce the rot!

My work will be cut-out on the underside, it looks as though it’s been under water most of its life!

Sorry for the thread hijack but thought I would say hello wavey
