Advice for 4x4 change
Discussion
At the Moment we have an Isuzu Rodeo 3litre double cab Auto 2004 with 65k,
Worth about £5500????
I use my MX5 Turbo (not chance of this little gem going anywhere) or the Rodeo for work as the Mrs walks to work,
She starts a new job as of next week and she will be using the Rodeo daily, we both feel that its fuel comsumption will be to heavy for this.
Our thoughts are to sell or ideally PX the Rodeo against a 4x4 worth £3500 and get a diesel focus / Astra type thing for Nat to use.
We need a 4x4 to tow the horse trailer (2 large horses funded by parents) or caravan (older twin axle), so needs to be a decent tow vehicle.
Prefer Manual as I think thats what is killing the MPG on the Rodeo.
Your thoughts, Is an LPG worth thinking about?
So far I have got in mind:
300tdi Disco
Range Rover 2.5TD (heard and seen friends have horror stories with petrol ones)
Shogun???
Trooper - been there done that, costly.
Jeep Grand Cherokee - Alot for the money
Cheers James

you should be able to pick up a good condition 4.2tdi landcruiser 80 series or more likely a 4.5 petrol 80 series on lpg.
The petrol isn't quite so reliable as the diesel (can have head gasket problems), but they are far more reliable than a green oval product, and extrememly supremely stable when towing

but a bit older probably

Like the sound of a big LPG Petrol lump, like the cruiser as well.
Size matters!!!!!
We have decided to give it 1month of Nat using the Rodeo for work and see what fuel it uses.
But I have been using it this week, I put £20 tue night as the light came on to do a basic check of MPG, I will have done 60mile buy the time I get home tonight, If I make it to work and back tomorrow with out the light coming on I will have covered 84mile (but I cannot see me getting this far)
If I manage the 84 miles on £20 @ £1.14per litre I calculate my MPG is just under 22mpg, at best. If I need to put more in before then it can be as bad as 18mpg.
I am shocked at how poor it is actually is.
