I want to take my Range Rover off road, I've had old Classics and Discos before and have gone on many green lanes but now I have a newer shape RR I'm worried about scratching the paintwork!, is there any off road courses around for this purpose, or any tracks that arn't going to scratch my car badly around?.
Also what decent off road tyres can you get in, I think it's 235/55/19, it might be 255/55/19 though I will have a look a bit later and ammend.

Which part of Surrey are you in? There are numerous lanes around Dorking traversing the North Downs.

Not many of them would avoid scratchage though!

I've done most of the ones around Ranmore/Dorking many times, fun as they are I would be reluctant to take an L322 Rangie on them!.

Try the one up from Shere underneath the A25 to the top of the hill. Went down it yesterday in a Defender (taller than your vehicle) and didn't touch any foliage.

You're not thinking of Beggar's Lane, are you? I'm pretty much that's still under a TRO and not legal to drive.

No. The one next to it. Beggars Lane is gated at the top and goes in to Gomshall.

Just back from a bit of a spin round there. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's London Lane. Was there a little sports club and carpark at the Shere end? I came down it today, having only previously been up it. Fun! biggrin

Yep. London Lane. You got me flapping earlier so I had to search for the name to check its status. Its a shame about Beggars Lane, but hardly surprising given the antics of some of the muppets using the lane three years ago deviating off the lane and into the surrounding forest, as it made an excellent downhill section when it was wet.

If you're up for some company give me a shout next time you're in the area as I have plenty of time on my hands.

I only live in Epsom, so this is my area anyway. I'm usually more limited by having 3 young children, but they and my wife are away for a few days, so I've got the weekend free if you're around today?

If you fancy coming out again today, JCW and I are meeting at the carpark in Shere at the bottom of London Lane at 2:30 this afternoon. smile

Just pop "London Lane Shere" into Google Maps to find it.

Sorry, I didn't see this in time?, I would have come out too, although I can be a bit slow in places, worried about my paintwork!.
No need to worry about that! I've started another thread to invite people out on the BH weekend if you want to add yourself to that. There are some tracks you might not want to do if scratchy is a concern, but none of them so long that we couldn't figure out some sort of alternative.

This thread takes me back to a few years ago when I had a lifted Jeep Cherokee that went everywhere Surrey had to offer. Good times, might have to find myself another little toy!
