Hi all. I have been offered by a supplier of mine a Unimog that they have working on their farm, and Im interested but have no idea about its value. Its a 1981 1000 with 6250hours of use on it. Any ideas of value or potential pitfalls in this vehicle? As a price guide I was told about £4500.
Any help appreciated, Neil.

It is all down to spec and condition.I have seen a U1000 from £2k up to nearly £20k.It needs to have been looked after reasonably well. They are tough, cheap to maintain but extremely expensive to neglect. All fluids need to be in good nick and not leaking out anywhere, especially not the portal gearboxes at the ends of the axle. They hold less than a litre of gearbox oil, and will start eating up the main gears/bearing very quickly if left to run low.The main gears will set you back £1.5k per corner.
Look for front and rear PTOs/hydraulic circuits,3 way tipper and Ag spec 3 point linkage and lift. Are all the parts there for the 3 point and the tipper? The ram tipper is £750 alone.
Is it an 8,16 or 24 speed?Does it have hydrostatic drive or the fast PTOs?Double clutch?
All these thing will add to its value and resale attraction.
Lastly, look for corrosion in the cab.The footwell, floorpans, wheelarches, wheelarch substructures and front cab support. These are not simple to repair, although all panels are available.
That price you have mentioned does seem to be at the lower end of what they appear for.Have a look at www.unimogs.co.uk for a bit of an idea what a trader will see its value as over here.
Good luck.

Hi could you give us some more details on the Mog, as requested by normalbloke, bodytype, accessories, condition etc. This would allow us to give a more informed answer.

They are awesome bits of kit, we have a U900 full agri spec. Goes anywhere and will tow anything with it. Cab corrosion is the main issue as the rest of them are bullet proof.
Depending on gearbox spec it takes a bit of learning as to whats what, and double clutching.
Ours does a steady 45mph on road, whether loaded or empty.

The U1000 will have a full synchro gearbox( and a totally different layout),a very different beast comfort and capability wise than the U900 series.
