My pal renewed his clutch, noticed a small leak at the crank oil seal.

He renewed the ally plate with a seal over the crank at the rear.

It now is leaking more and has killed the clutch.

Is there a "normal" oil seal behind that plate?

Cheers all.

HCM.

No
but tell him to buy a genuine seal when he does it again
and change the T pieces on the rear main bearing cap whilst there.
cheap seals are a waste of time, effort.

Thanks for that but what are the "T" pieces?

Two rubber or cork T pieces that sit in the rear bearing cap
this is inside the sump so not related in this oil leak case.
these can be the cause when the sump is leaking

The crank seal alloy housing has a rubber seal inside the diameter that fits on the crank
there is a plastic guide that is ejected as the alloy housing is pushed home
you cannot reuse a seal once removed,
not unless you want a leak that is smile

Thanks all for your help, clutch in, crankcase seal renewed, think i may have actually done a good job (he says with fingers crossed). was completely smothered in oil from bell housing, it had more in than the sump, many thanks again.
