Does anyone know if there is a special type of starter motor for a defender like a sealed unit or waterproof unit? Thanks

The origional starter in the defender broke to i put it in a friends garage and he replaced it.
He showed me the starter after it was taken out an the inside was rusted solid!!

The next day I done abit of offroading an went in water but it was less than mid wheel height.
Then the jeep was parked up for a week, went to start it and the starter had gone again!!

I was unable to take defender to the garage for the next 3weeks due to work and when i finally got it there the starter was once again rusted solid!!

So now i dont fancy going through any water unit i find out the problem...

Get the old one's reconditioned. Then learn to change the starter. I have the same issue in my 200TDi Disco, so I've got a recon standby in the boot and one on the car. I reckon I could change it in about 15 minutes, based on how quickly I did the first change last week. biggrin Recon has cost me less than half the price of a new starter.
