Hi all

I finally did it. bounce I bought myself a toy for off-roading. So, pay n play days are easy to get into, you go to google, find some sites, pick a date and just pay ya cash. However, Green Laning seems all the harder. I really fancy going for some 3 - 5 hr laning near me and to try to get the wife involved. Im secretly hoping she likes it so the Disco i've just bought wont come between us. hehe

So, how do I get into Green Laning in Leicestershire? Joining the local LR club looks possible, but that seems more "trial/ competition" based. So, any idea's?

Buy OS maps. If it's marked as a Byway & when you get there no signs say TRO (this would be a temp sign) or Restricted Byway then your allowed to drive it.
Most councils have definitive maps on their websites somewhere too.

May be best to join a local group as well, or at least speak to them first to see if they do green-laning. There will also be other members who do the play days, whick makes it more fun when you know someone there - and there's be someone to take the piss, take some photos and eventually pull you out when you get stuck!! The same applies to green lanes - never go alone in case you do get stuck!! You could also try a forum (we have Northants 4x4 around hers and there's probably a local one to you).

Try Loughborough Land Rover Club They organize green laning and visits to 4x4 sites. They are a friendly bunch and will be able to advise on rights of way etc.

This is probably the easiest and safest thing to do especially when it comes to finding out which lanes are legal to drive etc

O/T Cpas I'm a member of Northants 4x4, are you on there too?

Really do join a club, as driving along a lane that has restrictions on can mean the difference between having your toy and not!
You can't go wrong in joining either GLASS, or CRAG (I'm a member of CRAG) then you get access to the "Trailwise" website, this is up-to-date on what is and what isn't drivable, has TRO's on, the state of the lane, and past experience of other users. Depending on how good your map reading is, you could form a small group with others and plan your route to drive beforehand.
Whatever you do, read up on the greenlaning code of conduct, Don't go off the marked tracks, if a lane isn't drivable, turn around and leave it. Put yourself out to be friendly and courteous to all the other types of users, it costs nothing, but gets you respect.
Green lanes vary enormously in condition, some are like gravel motorways, others may be impassable, NEVER ever go alone!
