I am quite liking the idea of a SWB Shogun V6 (probably a '97-'99 24V 3000). Anything specific to look out for? I am guessing about 22-23mpg in normal road use?

I've got a LWB 3 litre GLS auto '96, awesome, with full electronic pack and everything still working!

Only issues in 4 years were 2 seized rear calipers and a new waterpump, 22 mpg motorway and 17/18 around town.

Dunno about the SWB, I think I would still prefer the LWB.

Still got Ian Rush's autograph in the service manual!

HTH.

I've got exactly the same as Dave, only a '98. I'd agree with his comments. Slightly more issues with mine, but all down to heavy mud immersion. smile

Many thanks for the responses - sub 20mpg may be little hard to swallow though. The only consolation is that the diesels are barely any better.

I would assume an SWB variant would drink less though?

You also need to consider what you compare it with? I can carry 4 adults, 3 small kids and enough kit for a picnic day on the beach in mine. Even the most frugal-engined vehicle capable of carrying that sort of load is still going to munch through a fair amount of fuel.

Get one, sure. But get an LPG converted one. 20 mpg just isn't worth the bother for a workhorse

Where do you put the LPG tank though? Stick it in the boot and you've just negated the benefit of having so much space in the first place, haven't you?

I thought about this also but I felt that the cost wasn't justified at @ 10000 annual mileage, if you plan on 30000 a year fair enough.

There's also the issue of the LPG tank location.
