Anyone else done this? Has to be selectable 4 wheel drive as it would be undriveable on the road, but fantastic offroad.

Vehicle is a 2.8D 4 door Hilux pickup import. 1992.

Yes some of the "Mud Boggers" in western Canada have been doing it for years.

Unless you have freewheel hubs, it's going to be undrivable on the road anyway.

and when in 4WD, youll have difficulty in turning without having to drop back to 2wd , turn, then back to 4wd ..

A few of the Zook guys do it, but it has its limitations....

I can’t understand why you think selectable four wheel drive is going to make a difference?

The front diff is there to allow the front wheels to turn at different speeds, it doesn’t make any difference if there’re being driven or not. For gods sake don’t take it on the road like that. You’ll need to fit some freewheel hubs to disconnect the half shafts from the hubs.

To be fair, on road the welding/halfshafts will probably only survive to the first cornerbiggrin
