rangerover p38 autobox fault

hi,i.m thinking of buying a rangerover p38.to move her you have to select 1st gear untill you are over 5mph then you can select drive.anybody have any idea.s ? cheers steve

sprag clutch in gearbox has failed. complete box strip down i'm afraid.

Yep... sprag clutch A has failed.... seems to be a weak point on the ZF transmission, mine went in my classic within 100 miles of picking it up.

Ended up taking a risk and buying a secondhand box on e-bay and changing the whole box, otherwise as the poster above states it's a stripdown and rebuild.

That's a rare beast is that... a P38 with no faults at all.... are you sure!
