I have Grizzly Claws which are pretty good in the mud.
I have always used them so cannot say how they compare to other brands.
Cannot comment on wheels. Whats wrong with your existing wheels?
If you just need another set as you want to keep road tyres on your existing wheels, then surely any set of cheap wheels on e bay will do. Just decide what diameter tyre you want and get wheels the same. You only want cheap old wheels for off roading, as other wise you will only damage them. Why not use your existing wheels for the off roading, and get a nice new set for the road?

What sort of off roading, as in type and terrain? Also how many mods do you have or intend to have and how much risk do you want to take?

If you compete in ALRC events you must run 16" rims and there is a limit to the off set, you also can't run bigger than a 33" tyre.

If not, then you can go bigger, but bigger means more risk of breaking stuff so HD axles and diffs might be needed to make use of them. And bigger also means higher C of G and worse turning lock.

There is also quite a debate on whether narrow tyres or wide ones give the best grip on typically muddy British trials.

Then there is price - SIMEX tyres are some of the best, but they are bloody expensive, talking maybe £200 a tyre.

Remoulds are much cheaper and 90% as good depending on what you are doing. Maybe not so good on road and lose their bite sooner off road.

Several places do remoulds, such as Greenway, Kingpin, Bronco4x4, Colway and many 4x4 specialist sell the tyres like Paddock Spares.

Amazon/Macho are quite a good alrounder. Not really seen them bested off road by any real amount but are ok on road too:

The Anaconda or Trial Ade is a copy of an American Interco TSL bogger. Very good in the mud, but I've been told not so good on a side slope.

Highlander looks aggressive too:

Insa Turbo EXTREME/Special Track - a Simex copy and a good Land Rover axle breaker, but not great on the Road. I think a company called Silverstone do one too:

I currently run these:

Simex Jungle Trekker II and have found them to be pretty good.

I want some of these next however:

They are a Diamond back, this ones a Maxi Grip from Fedima.

As for rims, well lots of places sell the modular and 8 spoke steel rims. All are ok but sadly many are cheapish and will rust - but you can paint them.

Mach 5 rims are nice but expensive.

The Land Rover 1 ton rim is a wider offset Landy rim which is popular in the ALRC circle and suitable for many tyres.

As for rim size, depends on what tyre you go for though.

235/85R16 is a popular size for trialling. But 265/75R16 works, as does 31.10R15 or 7.50R15.

I often run 33.11.50R15 on 15x8 rims, but this can break stuff and does affect gearing.

If you want 35" tyres upgraded parts and a change of diff gears will be a must.

I am running on Kumho MT-834s and these are pretty good - although only available as Marshals now. The KL71s are also pretty good - some people say better. These are around £100 each or £500-£550 a set of 4 on steel rims.

I used to toy with the idea of getting some extreme tyres when I ran my 90, but the BFG All-Terrains were excellent and I never once got stuck, despite throwing myself and the Landy up, down, over and into all sort of situations. The pic in my profile of the 90 launching itself out of a sludge-filled crater up a 45 deg slope was on the BFGs.

(I'm lying about never getting stuck, but the couple of times I managed to get cross-axled due to slowness of brain, I don't think any tyre would have saved me!)

It was a while back, and I no longer have a mud toy frown

They were 235, but I can't remember the rest of the specs. I originally wanted 265s for the sake of appearance, but was given the good advice that wide was not good in most UK off-road situations. 235 really seemed to do the trick.

Stuck them on four of these:

Got a good deal, all fitted in no time at all from here:

Wish I still had time to play in the mud. driving
