Hi there,

This summer after exams three mates and myself are planning a road trip to...as far as we can get in a south-easterly direction!
For this, we need a 4x4 that we could pick up for less than - say - £2000 that will be semi-reliable, cavernous, can be fixed with spanners and hammers, and old (for insurance purposes; we'll be eighteen and nineteen).

At the moment we're thinking Defender, or Disco - any ideas?

Cheers,

Ben

Long wheel base Vitara, back bone of third world countries. One day when I lived in the Caribbean I was bored and had a 1 1/2 hour drive. I counted 150 odd Vitara's.

This. I have one and they're awesome. Make such a good motorway cruiser too, about 1700 rpm at 70mph so nice and quiet. Seriously easy to work on, the engines are full-on bulletproof and go forever and the chassis is seriously solid.

Frontera.

Really.

You could even make a joke out of it, and it's the only one which fits all your criteria.

It's also the only one you'll get a nice one for a grand.
