Driving to India.

Hi all,
I've always had a dream of driving to india. My fiance's family have a farm in india (10,000acres) which would make a fine desination to head at. I just wonder if it's been done before? and what sort of preporation would we need to make?
I'm not silly enough to think that I could leave tomorrow, we don't plan on going until the summer of 2011 at the earliest. I plan on taking a Misubishi L200 which will be prepaired nearer the time with a roof tent, offroad tyres etc.

People have been doing it pretty much since the invention of the motor car 
I did it in 1997 in a 2CV and it was pretty much tarmac all the way (albeit poor quality in places). We met loads of other people doing it including a VW camper.
