D40 Navara 17" All terrains, sizes and suggestions?
Discussion
My D40 Navara needs some new tyres as the old ones have just covered 24k miles and some are near the limit. I want to replace them with a slightly larger tyre both width and height, and also a more aggressive tyre but no "special tracks"!.
Its currently on Good year Wranglers 255/65/17. Any ideas on how much larger I can go or with what tyres, as I know it varies from brand to brand?

I would use a tyre calculator like this one to decide how big you can go:
http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html
It is recommended that the new tyres are +- 2.5% overall diameter of the original tyre size or you will adversely effect gearing and particularly speedo accuracy.
As an example going up to a 265/65/17 would be OK at 1.7% larger than you have but 265/70/17 wouldn't be at 5.24% larger.

We go upto 265/70x17 as these are as large as you can go, General AT2's work very well.

Well got them fitted and they ride good, nice and smooth. Better than I thought they would actually.
Got a 320 mile round trip to Lincolnshire to do tomorrow so will see how they perform, might even see some snow
The fitting was expensive I think at £19 a rim but it was conveinient because I was just to busy to get it done another way at the moment.

Hi Andy
Yes real pleased with them, havent used them offroad yet but the onroad manners are great. I havent noticed any more road noise than the OE tyres fitted before and they handled the snow and ice great, well pleased!
Mind you the tyre fitter inflated them to 35psi but I found the steering too light at speed and have dropped them to 32psi but have yet to test them at speed again, been way too busy playing with my land rover in the snow!
Thanks, Neil.
