Which Double cab
Discussion
I've just paid for an L200 raging bull with power upgrade after months of research. wish I'd found this site sooner.
Have I made a monumental cock up, a little one or a good choice. I'll be towing a horse trailer up to 15,000 miles/pa with about 5,000 unhitched on top. light off roading. family car. filling with crap, logs etc.
Looked at the ford, couldnt get one! isuzu, wouldnt do any deals so expensive (abergele dealer), hi-lux didnt like the look, low tow limit & power, navara, less than one star ncap..at 30 the chassis removes the drivers feet thro the floor pan, air bags dont go off when req'd etc. Defender, cant pull the skin off a rice pudding & unreliable reputation, v. expensive.
L200 was only one any dealer could fit a tachograph, and all terrain tyres in the deal. Also NON of the others have a full 4x4 system, just limited slip diffs and low range.
Just had someone tell me they wish they'd never bought one due to low power..fair enough in standard @ 134 bhp. and chassis crap.

Legingel, cheers, I really wanted a 110, . I thought the power was only 134bhp? I do loads of M.way miles too, are you going to depress me more by telling me I could get a new one for 24,500 otr, inc tacho, tow bar & single elecs. , air con, any other extras are a bonus, not deal breakers (sat nav, leather etc.) I couldnt find a dealer nearby, wirral, who knew what a discount was.
A new 110 would have been my choice. I use a hilux as a daily workhorse but when I'm towing offroad the 110 is my choice. You should slap whoever told you a defender 'cant pull the skin off a rice pudding'. I regularly pull 3500kg and have exceed that offroad to help get stuck things unstuck. The new 2.4 is more economical and I find I can sit relatively comfortably at 70mph on the motorway. They are expensive but look at the resale compared to similar vehicles.
Can't fault mine. 2006 Warrior with the standard power (no upgrade). Sometime wish for the extra power but that is quite rare. Tows a 1.5 tonne load effortlessly.
52,000miles with no problems at all.
As good as any pick-up can be on-road and great off road. Smallest turning circle in class. Comfortable, good spec, average 30-32 mpg however just did a run down to Tintagel from Stroud last Monday, stuck to 60-65mph as was in convoy with family camper, trailer etc etc and it returned 51mpg!!! Fair bit of drafting to be fair but if you are in no hurry then it can be economical.

really?
Care to elaborate on that? What does the L200 have as a transmission sytem?
L200 has a centre diff + viscous coupling so can be run in 4x4 high on tarmac roads. High or Low range 4x4 with centre difflock for rough surfaces and a an electric (I think) rear locker although it may just be an LSD. And yes, it does have TC too. really?

The L200 is much better if you get the 165bhp power upgrade (standard on the animal).

I have just bought a 3.0 Hilux double cab LE...its from Toyota GB but was destined for Eire...for £15k plus vat. This was from a Toyota main dealer. It has 170hp, is returning 36 to the gallon at present, 1000 miles on the clock so not run in. It will tow 2250kg, so 4950lbs. I am neither here nor there about the look of it, they are all similar, but the above factors make it the best buy....IMHO. I tested the Isuzu and found it to have a very choppy ride.
Haven't you put the cart before the horse though...if you've bought an L200 then asked if its right ?

Except that the OP stated he want's to tow a horsebox, 2250kg isn't enough to tow a standard twin horse Ifor Williams trailer.C Lee Farquar said:

About 33mpg, comfy, quick enough, does everything you ask of it.

I did appreciate the fact that he was towing a horse trailer, but as you see many being towed by Subaru Legacy/Foresters with a lower tow limit I thought it constructive to add...best keep my nose out in future then....
Didn't mean to come across as abrasive. However your towing capacity should exceed the rated maximum gross weight of the trailer, whether empty or not, irrespective of what someone with a Legacy decides to tow. Gassing Station | Off Road | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
