I'm (stupidly) agreed to help my wayward brother track down a 4x4, but I'm not really sure where to start.

Firstly the budget is kinda small - up to £1000. Criteria:

Diesel
Preferably manual but not essential
LWB (this is essential, as it will occasionally be slept in)
The more basic and agricultural the better!

Needs to be safe, if not necessarily MOT'd (though at least a month's MOT would be handy). He lives in Portugal and needs it as his 'day van' so will be used semi off-road to transport his dogs/surfboards/chums around.

Thinking:

Nissan Patrol (not sure at this price)
Vauxhall Montery (possiblity)
Isuzu Trooper (same as above!)
Mitsubishi Pajero/Shogun
Toyota Hilux Surf (again, hold their value)

Any other thoughts? And where, other than eBay, can I look?

Thanks!

Whereabouts are you based?

In London, Gumtree.com is a pretty good place to look for cheap motors.

Indeed, my 1998 Cherokee is for sale on there at the moment and (subject to price) meets all your requirements... wink

Good call, though I suggested the Jeep and got told they were 'too small'!

No offence Wrighty,
But buyer beware on the Jeep if it has a VM diesel in it.They are notoriously rubbish.
