Hi,

I read on here somewhere.. cant remember which post exactly )

that instead of fitting a 2" lift, you can get your arches tubbed, and then fit some dislocation cones, which then gives you the ability to fit 33" ? tyres and loads of flex?

Any idea exactly what size tyre i could fit to one doing this, and how much it would cost to do ( preferably in the midlands )

Not got one yet, but its a coin toss between a V8 disco and an SJ

Dunno about all that stuff but I've fitted 7.50s (235/85/16) mud tyres on my Disco, and I just needed to fold the inner lips of the arches, pull them out a bit with a pair of grips and trim the front and rear fenders. A lot easier on a 3 door than a 5 door however.

Unless you're after show not go you don't really need 33" tyres. Mine are 31 or 32 and are big enough for pretty much everything you'll need to do.

This is not maximum articulation but I've taken it off roading and not had any issues yet smile

Hi fesuvious, I still very occasionaly scuff my tyres on the front when hitting steps and ledges at any kind of pace, and I've so far been unable to find out where as I can't accurately replicate the problem on jacks or stands at all. Is it possible my 235/85s are clearing the outer arch but scrubbing on the inner wing?

The scrubbing noise happens when I hit a step or a rock too quick with the front wheels, and it sounds like it's coming from the front. My wheels do clear the outer arches so it might be the plastic inner wheelarch that is catching, so I'll rip that out and see what happens next.

Inner wheel arch isn't looking too brilliant in terms of rust anyway so it will need chopping out and replacing soon, I'll just allow a bit more clearance when I weld it back up smile

My motor is standard apart from the tyres, a low profile front bumper and jate rings. No lift whatsoever and on standard bump stops.

Ok, being serious here;

I hit the point where Id got a disco that was starting to resemble a colander. Id also got mods I wanted to do but didn't have the 'know how'.

This is what I did.

Haynes Manual on welding, this one

read it twice and only really paid attention to the 'Mig' welding part as mig welders I already knew are cheaper etc etc.

Then went out and bought a 140amp welder and kit, cost me @£200 all in.

Got some old steel, practiced, suddenly found I knew how to weld.

A mate of mine educated himself after buying the kit. Laughed at me for buying a welding book...
Im now a far better welder than he is.

To get the work done for you would probably cost about the same. If you want Id happily talk you through it if you bring your vehicle over one evening.

If you are going to get into offroading then you gotta learn to weld !
That is a fantastic offer!! Thank you!
