Just got the Disco back from it's MOT and the front tyres are close to the limit.
I am looking to change to a full set of A/T's, but given the range and different types of AT tyres that are available on the market, would appreciate some advice on the best brands and buys.
My car is a Disco 2. I use the car for shooting during the season and close season as a work party vehicle. For the latter, the car is used (fully laden) off road. Terrain is mixed and can get quite tricky when there has been a lot of rain (which last year was quite common).
I need a A/T(?) that peforms well off road, but does not compromise handling too much when on tarmac (I used to have a Defender with a set of M/T's and handling was a bit 'wayward' to say the least.
Any thoughts/recommendations welcomed.

Another vote for the BFG AT for your usage. The old BFG Tracedge was better but they stopped doing them so i doubt you'd find any.
that was a sad day- don't reckon the current AT gets anywher near the tracedge- although i wonder if the tracedge was noisier than the new A/T? i only ever had them on realyl old series that were so noisy the tires made no difference anyway- reckon those open voids can't haev been the quitest. There were some remould tracedges doing the rounds, but i haevn't looked for them for a while so i don't know if they're still available!

In my experience the best AT tyre currently is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo.
Similar off road performance to the BFG AT, but significantly better dry and wet weather road grip and better on winter roads too.
Treadwear is also better. They are more money than the BFG AT though.
And, yes, I have done significant mileage on and off road with both tyres.
The BFG AT is a good tyre. Very old design now though.

It may be an old design, but it has proven itself over, and over, however, being an 'old' design, has proved to many, many more overlanders and off roaders, that there is significant advantage in staying with a T. T. T. 'tried, tested, and trusted'.

Used BFG's on our last 4x4 and they were spectacular - pulled a 1.5t horse trailer out of a boggy bit where other's with better vehicles but lesser tyres had failed.
The trouble is our replacement, a 'cruiser, has 265/65R17s. The ones fitted "custom made for" are hopeless, both by reputation and my personal experience. Not just a little hopeless, either - struggled to get out of a very mildly boggy field on a 10% gradient - made a hell of a mess getting out.
I'd love to change them for BFGs but according to their site, they don't make them this size. Could anyone point me at a site that would let me play with profile/width to find a set that fit the rims but keeps the rolling radius similar?

ETA: OK, scrap that idea - BFG don't do 17" rims.
