I have just got to many 4x4 around me,my toyota hilux crew cab for work, rangerover 3.9 se to get me to work and my landrover 90 200tdi weekend toy.I am thinking of selling the lot and buying a 4x4 that will pull my brian james car trailer,be my daily driver plus a bit of light/green lane type off roading.Frist off I thought jeep wrangle 40lt auto box,I could get air lockers,2" lift and fit a winch the same as the 90 for off road, not to bad a ride as the daily driver or would it end up the same my 90,balls out off roader!Next on the list is the G wagen, built in lockers,I've heard a good ride and can tow up to 2.8 tons.Petol, automatic with a LPG is this the one or too nice to off road! The last one that keeps coming to mind is the landrover 90 50th anniversay agian converted to LPG,it's got every thing I want but have I been here before(90,3.9 se)What do you think or even drive?

Can they ever! Mine comes with a warning notice to make sure you get a tachograph fitted if you're coupling up a heavy trailer. hehe

Did think of a land cruiser but the SWB 3 door only comes with the 3lt engine which is not a good motor.

Same as my HiLux,everything thats over 3.5t needs a tachograph for work only. When I did the trophee cevenol in my 90 last year there was a lot of toyota 80s with all kit doing very well on a very hard course.

My Shogun has no modifications bar a set of all terrain tyres, although it has a rear diff locker as standard equipment. Even as standard, it has proved pretty much unstoppable, whether laning, pay and play sites or towing heavily laden vans and the like up hills in the snow recently.

It also returns between 20 and 28mpg in daily use and is very comfortable to drive. Air-sprung heated leather seats are lovely!

I reckon with a lift kit and maybe some more aggressive tyres, it would be absolutely outstanding.

All the people who's 3lt have over heated! In all fairness 4 runner/surfs are the main contenders

i had a 3ltr TD surf and found it to be an excellent motor much better than the 2.4 that eats cylinder heads.

I was considering a G wagon, being a mercedes fan, but was advised otherwise. Let's just say the maverick will eat a g wagon off road and spit out what's left!!!

What's wrong with the landy? Can't it tow very well. Problems on the daily commute?

Hello

Just Sold an old G Wagon SWB soft top.

I bought it as a project and to do some car moving for a friend, thay had to be pulled out of a field that flooded regularly, I already had a Ranger Thunder which didnt even move them an inch, several others had tried with the notmal assortment of Landrovers Hilux Rangies.
The G wagon pulled them out like a tractor would slow and steady, but thats the downside of a G, they are very heavy, and top out at 50 - 60 mph, consume fuel at an alarming rate, and parts are well Merc prices.

I did try towing a car transporter with it but to be honest you need the turbo diesel models for that just way too slow on hills.

I still wish I had mine as I might have a bit more work for it now, but I genuinly think you would struggle to use it as an only vehicle.

I use my MK2 TD5 disco for everything.
Laning, work, family holidays and towing a 21/2 ton trailer.

Fitted 2" lift, bumpers, tree sliders, Wheels, mud terrains, protection and winch.
Still has self levelling air suspension, ace(anti-roll), abs, traction control, twin air-con, etc etc.

You should see it go up the rock steps at Hindhead, all in comfort and 7 seats if necessary!
