Vitara Xfer Box Question

Hi guys, been out playing in a vitara today ( standard )

and i have a question about is 4x4 system.

i know it has 2wd 4wd and 4wdl options, but trying to do a simple little climb today, i found that once a wheel starts spinning its like a 1wd veh ?

i.e the rear driver side wheel would just spin to its hearts content, but nothing would happen at the front.


doest the vitara 4x4 system have a center diff lock or is it comprised of x3 open diffs ?

They have locking front hubs....

ahh, does that mean the front humbs on the vitara i was using wern't locked?

done some research.

and decided to take the front wheels off, with them came the alu covers that prevented me from seeing everything.

under which i saw



so twisted them to locked and boom, i have 4wd.

great

shame its not even mentioned in the service manual
