I've seen a Trooper for sale near me for a very, very low price (low 3 figures). 6 months tax, 6 months mot, 3dr petrol model, mid nineties.

I know nothing about them, can anyone educate me? Have they got difflock(s)? What kind of suspension? Coils all round? Any particular problems with them?

Independant front, leaf spring rear. I think that later models became coil sprung live axle at the rear.
Seem to remember that they were switchable 2/4 wheel drive, the 2.8TD was economical, the 3.0TD a lot quicker but thirsty - both smoother than a tdi
Never owned one but a friend had one.
A good work horse but only a reasonable off roader.

Had a 3.5 1999 Trooper for 4 years now... Gets used for towing horsebox on and off road, shooting hack - well and truly offroad, and general run around with trailer to tip etc...

Best 4 x 4 we've ever had... And they are very good off road, this is where ours has primarily earned its keep.

In four years its had oil changes, cam belt change once, and a starter motor and two sets of brake pads.. Tyres seem to last forever in fact the last set were changed as the sidewalls started to split - Still plenty of tread and believe they were the original factory fit..

Great 4 x 4 but pig ugly, functional, comfortable but its no Discovery/Range Rover (But certainly more reliable)...
