Can anyone recommend an independent to service a Hilux? We're in South West London but am happy to take it a bit of a distance to get the job done properly.

I've searched various forums, but haven't turned up any recommendations except for Tony in Basingstoke and he seems to be out of action at the moment. If it was just fluids and filters, I'd do it myself, but it looks like the exhaust needs doing as well. Any suggestions gratefully received.

As a rule, exhausts tend to be just about the easiest DIY job there is on a car. smile

Just back it up onto a couple of ramps, get underneath, undo a few bolts, remove the old and reverse the process! Of course, if it's been there for a while and you've been using the Hilux properly, it might need a few soaks of WD40 over a couple of days to get the old bolts free.

Thanks for the tip. I'd normally have a crack at it, but I'm really short on time at the moment and just need someone else to deal with it and any other problems they uncover, so any suggestions for an indy would be really helpful.

Service it yourself, and get the exhaust done at an exhaust specialist.

Normally I would indeed do it myself, but this time that is really not an option. I need it doing, I need it doing soon and I have no time. So ... can anyone recommend an indie?

If you want to give us a call tomorrow on 01737 241370 I will look at the day book and see when we can fit you in, we have been L/Rover specialists for the last 30+ years but have started servicing Toyota and Nissan 4x4's of late, it's not rocket science to fit an exhaust, bet they are a little easier than some of the L/Rovers we do, look up www.ajstyres.co.uk, feel free to phone for a chat.

It was you who put the BFGs on my Shogun.

You might remember me, as I was also looking at pricing for Toyos for the 260. smile

They're doing just what they should. A combination of those plus the locking rear diff on the Shoggie meant I was happily trundling around Slab Common watching Pajs on big chunky mud tyres getting stuck in the sand last weekend! laugh

Plus your driving skill sir, sometimes an aggressive tyre is not the right choice in sand, thats why the AT tyres are a good all round choice.
