Tyre width for my Disco
Discussion
Hi guys,
Just a quick one, I have a standard Discovery 300Tdi and am loking at a set of new tyres, I have been offered some 255/55/16 which should look considerably more purposeful than the 205r16 skinnies that it currently parades around on !! However, im sure i read somewhere that there is a maximum width you can run on a standard Disco - and i dont want to have to start lifting the body or fitting arches.
Does anyone know the maximum width ??

Agreed. 235/85 is the biggest you really want to go as any wider and you'll really reduce your lock and need a football field to turn around with. If you don't want to trim your arches then go for 235/70. A 2" suspension lift with 235/85 is normally a good route to go. You get a bit more clearance under the axles and more articulation without binding in the wheel arches.
They are slightly smaller 205/70 = 143.4cm profile 255/55 = 140.25 profile, so you wont have a problem rubbing arches. If you don't fit spacers then you are going to have a problem with them fouling the steering rods, so you have to adjust the lock. This will worsen your turning circle. To be honest I wouldn't go for them. If you want a different tyre without mods go for a 235/70.
