I have a 2010 Mitsubishi L200 Walkinshaw and could do with some input regards axle & suspension replacement or repair. If anyone has relevant knowledge it’d be much appreciated.

The Walkinshaw ‘unfortunately for me’ doesn’t have the standard L200 leaf spring suspension on the rear axle. It has a damper and coil spring which attaches to the rear axle by means of a bracket, welded to the axle. Its this bracket (near side) which has failed.

Id hoped for a straight replacement from a scrap yard as Mitsubishi don’t carry the spare but as so few were made, I’ve drawn a blank.

So, I’m looking for similar experiences or educated direction as to the following if anyone can help.

1. Anyone got such an axle?
2. Is it possible to remove the current suspension and retro fit with leaf springs and a conventional axle?
3. Is it feasible that a new bracket could be fabricated to the existing axle?

I’m looking for knowledge first and foremost BUT ill be looking for someone to take the job on too, in the midlands area, if anyone has recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Actually I think it's worse. From a google of it, the suspension was an upgrade option so it's a subset of a tiny number made!

In addition, customers buying Mitsubishi’s L200 ‘Walkinshaw Performance’ can opt for enhanced ride, handling and performance courtesy of a ‘Walkinshaw Performance’ sports suspension and exhaust upgrade kit, including:

5 Link Rear Suspension with coil springs over dampers
It was also a post-registration upgrade with the kit available from Walkinshaw which suggests Mitsubishi never held parts in the first place.

Have you tried contacting Walkinshaw themselves? https://www.walkinshawperformance.co.uk/

That upgrade list is a bit odd, the standard 175bhp variant in Warrior trim, and more so in Barbarian trim has most, or better. Eg. 175bhp not 168 bhp, cruise control. I guess the Walkinshaw upgrades were based on a 136bhp base model.

Try a mechanic who has welding gear. Potentially the part which has snapped could be welded?

Where in the Midlands are you? Any decent 4x4 fab shop would replicate the mounting point, only problem I could see is if it damaged the axle tube when it came unstuck.

Again, where are you located? I could easily draw that bracket up on CAD and weld it onto the axle tube. I'm guessing many folks will be the same

Don’t do that. Most spanner monkeys with a welder can barely stick a patch on properly for a crusty mot hole. Any decent fabrication shop ought to be able to make the bracket, and attach it properly for a reasonable fee. Also, look for a decent hot right rod shop, this is bread and butter stuff for them.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've been side-tracked by other things past month but yes I've approached Walkinshaw. No input from them so far. Id a faint hope they would pop up and say they had a drawing a fabricator could work off.
