As above, looking for a tow car and stumbled upon rtv
Trials, used my mx5 for autosolos which was enjoyable as it’s cheap with a competitive aspect!

Probably going to get hold of a d1 or d2 and stick some AT tyres on to start with,

Based in hants so on the look out for regular events or events not a million miles away.

The competitive aspect interests me more then just p&p sites I think!

Be careful with vehicles with a long wheel base like Discos. There is only usually one 'shunt' per section and that will hinder you.

I took my 90 to a trial and it was the SJs and Jimnys that were the weapon of choice. Sections are usually laid out with tight turns so small and agile is good.

Where in Hants are you? SCOR trials are very welcoming and a nice crowd - lots of support if you're a 'newbie'.

If you join a ALRC club, you will competing in a class for your vehicle, so a LWB class for disco, so like for like competition. I used to compete in my daily driver (defender), and as long as the red mist doesnt come down, it's fairly non damaging.

Hi.

Feel free to PM me if you want.

I'd suggesting starting out with a Land Rover club, specifically one that is part of the Association of Land Rover Clubs (ALRC).

Chiltern Vale LRC is in your area: https://www.cvlrc.co.uk/

Or take a look at the main ALRC website to find other local clubs.

RTV trials are great fun and quite challenging. A standard vehicle is ideal, you just need some suitable recovery points that are attached sensibly with high tensile nuts & bolts.

There is a rule book, but don't get too hung up on that first off.

In the summer when it's dry All Terrains are likely fine. But some sites are muddy, so some MT's might be more suitable.

If you think RTV looks too challenging, there are Tyro trials too, which are more tame and more suited to true 'showroom' class vehicles. But generally speaking most people start out in RTV.

The best thing with ALRC clubs is they are all Land Rover. So you'll be competing against like competitors for the most part. Although Defenders do still tend to rule.

Many events will be split into different classes too, so you wouldn't always be directly competing with smaller vehicles.

If you make your vehicle suitable for ALRC events you can also compete with other organisations such as the All Wheel Drive Club or independent clubs. But you will find at these events that many of the vehicles are likely to be more bespoke or smaller than a Disco.

I used to compete in a 3rd Disco 1 myself.

Some footage of RTV's.
