Hi all. I currently have a 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2L petrol fitted with some falken AT tyres that came with it. Me and a few mates are interested in doing a bit of off roading/green laning, not anything too extreme just a bit of fun in some muddy roads, small hills, fields etc. Is there any essential mods that should be done to the grand vitara to make it better? Not my main car but it will be used on road too so nothing that will make it horrible to drive. Also any recommendations for groups or where to go in surrey or surround areas?

Just get out and do it, then decide if you need any mods. Go out together and have tow straps, shackles and a shovel in case one gets stuck.

Join GLASS or ATUK as you get access to maps of the green lanes and their status. Also worth joining a Facebook group or two.

Forget 'mods'... Most 4x4s are actually very capable out-of-the-box and a lot of the mods people make essentially compensate for lack of driver skill.

Get involved with one of the local groups and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Find your local pay and play site to checkout you and your vehicles ability.

I'm looking to do something similar with my Shogun Sport which is currently completely standard.

The only things I'm going to have done is Waxoyle the underside this coming month as it's relatively rust free and would like to try and keep it that way. I'll then fit some all terrain tyres and take it from there.

Some people go to extremes with their off-roaders but it depends what you plan to do really. I did an off-roading experience in a standard L200 and was blown away by what it could do.

Hopefully by now you have gained some experience? I reiterate some of the points above to join Glass or ATUK to find where you can legally greenlane. There is a big difference between greenlaning and off roading which you will find here https://www.glass-uk.org/about/where-can-i-drive.h...

Enjoy getting out there - sounds like its more the greenlaning route you wish to pursue so just do your research and go with like minded people if possible.
