After trying to find the answer on the internet I'm now doing what I should have done in the first place and asking the PH oracle. Does anybody have a definitive answer to the question 'which Skoda Yetis are available with 4WD'? We're looking at used pre-2014 facelift cars only, and ideally petrol. The 1.2 sounds perfect but I'm fairly sure that these were only FWD, and the 1.4 4WD didn't come out until 2015 so is too new. Would I be correct in saying that my only petrol option is the 1.8 TSI? If that's true which is the best one from a reliability POV, the 150hp or the 158hp?
We've always had diesel cars in the past and liked them, but looking forward a bit (and also being a bit scared of DPF issues which seem to be more prevalent these days) I've more or less ruled out the 2.0 diesel.
Thanks for any help. smile

I believe the facelift was 2013. Petrol engine specs show the 1.2 was only FWD. The 1.4 was either FWD or 4WD. The 1.8 were all 4WD.

Why dismiss a diesel? The question is what sort of driving/distances you do. If short runs then petrol, if more than about 10K miles/year including longer runs then diesel is probably best. All diesel variants had the choice of FWD or 4WD. At that age I would expect low to mid 40s mpg from a diesel, probably no better than low 30s mpg from a petrol.

I would not dismiss the diesel. The ‘less than 10k miles a year’ mantra is only a financial consideration, and as long as long runs are made now and again, then a diesel should not be an issue. Many people prefer the torque of a diesel.

I do like a diesel myself, it's just that I have been a bit spooked by stories of DPF trouble, probably need to stop reading this stuff! smile

Absolutely agree, I would not personally go for petrol unless I was only doing about 2-3K miles a year! Diesel is a much more relaxing drive on the road. I was basing the 10k on costs as you suggested.

I had a Yeti diesel AWD and never had any DPF issues but was high ish miles. Wife has a seat TDI and is low miles, never had any DPF issues in the 7 years and 56k the car has done in our posession.we did have to have a new EGR valve but didn't break the bank at £840.

The pre face-lift come in 140 and 170 guises, the later having uprated brakes too I believe.

The elegance and L&K are the one to go for IMO, decent kit and have xenon bending headlights as standard.

We ran a 170ps TDI Laurent&Klement - absolutely brilliant car, did everything well and was a surprisingly engaging steer. Got to over 70k miles before it was swapped for a new Golf R estate. Much faster but a better car, not so sure to be honest? Yeti was peak Skoda i think.

I'm a big fan of the Yeti, I'm currently running two.
I have a 170 diesel elegance 4x4 for towing my caravan and a 1.2 petrol DSG FWD

They are great little things, drive really well, but the petrol 4X4 Yeti lineup is very frustraiting.
Pre facelift 2013 for 4X4 petrol its the 1.8 which has a pretty poor reputation, you can get 2013/14 face lift cars with this engine in L&K trim only, after 2014 they are all the 1.4 engine which is very good, 150bhp and more economical than the 1.8.
But, and this is a big problem all L&K trim cars come with the panoramic sun roof which will almost certainly leak and is a PITA to cure.

Skoda made a mess of all their 4X4 by only making them with the diesel engines e.g. no petrol VRS Octavia 4X4 or Scout's

Now with the demonisation of diesel they are doing Kodiac and Karoq VRS and Scouts with AWD and petrol, but still no Octavia VRS

Really need to get rid of my diesel as its only doing under 3k a year but just can't find anything I like as much.(in budget)

I have had 4 Octavia Scouts. I believe they are the cream of the bunch, all the space of the Octavia with the added ground clearance and 4WD. They were always available in either petrol or diesel until the run-out range recently.

I guess we've come to the same conclusion as we've ended up buying a Scout 2.0 CR diesel.

Enjoy the car. They got better through time, the first was a brand new 2008, then a 2010, 2011 and finally a 2016. The v3 was much better than the v2 and the v2.5s. Fuel consumption varied from 43mpg, to 50mpg with 46 mpg for the v2.5s sold the 2016 with 118k miles on it last May.

Thanks. Ours is a 2010 so a bit down the pecking order but it was good value and bought from a dream vendor so our hopes are high(ish).
