Am I crazy or is it making more and more sense as a genuinely capable cheap off road car that has some charm and wont make people loathe you??

Yes you can better spec'd, faster, more composed cars. But this or a 3rd hand discovery? No competition for me.

Well that's embarrassing...

Yes, yes I do mean niva.

I like that it is unpretentious and has stayed simple. It seems like a genuine tool, rather than a cynical marketing/branding exercise.

Very capable off-road and as you say, unpretentious.

Base price of a 3 door is around £3,200.00 in Moscow, so they really are excellent value.

Alas, once you take in to account import duty and VAT they don't appear to be such a great bargain if you try to bring one back in to the UK.

I would love to bring a UAZ 452 back to the UK, however the other half would kill me.

How much would the import duty and VAT be? Could this be reduced by importing into Germany or Holland?

I think import duty is 10% of the purchase price and then 20% VAT is due on the purchase price plus the import duty.

I still reckon that's cracking value. Hassle to import, but I just like that they exist

I agree, and might be easier to get one than a Jimny...

I like the new Jimny but reckon one of these might drive better.

There used to be a dealer who would import and register one for you for £13K or so (actually here's the details: https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-2... but as the article says... you can get a 4x4 Dacia for less
