Looking for 1st off-road for son
Discussion
On the off-chance that someone can help......
Looking for a 4x4 day for self and son. I’ve done a bit of off-road, but he’s done nothing. He’s also an auto-only driver and really needs a good coach - he reacts well to calm voices and incredibly badly to stress and shouting.
We’re based in Surrey but can obviously travel. Cost isn’t the issue, a good day out is, and preferably one where there’s lots of seat time rather than coffee drinking.

Having just done the Muddy Adventure at Brands Hatch with my step-son under very similar circumstances, I can definitely recommend this as a first step. The instructors are very calm and the environment is well controlled. Auto only experience is not an issue as you actually are taught not to touch the clutch for 99% of the time and the Defender is nigh on impossible to stall under the circumstances presented - they make a point about that early on.
We booked an hour each and we just went out in the same vehicle together and swapped every 20 minutes or so. This way the instruction for us met step-son's ability to take in information and it's a nice way to learn from each other as well as the instructor. We were out about 2.5 hours in total.
Certainty a very informative first step and could not recommend highly enough.
