The USA now gets the Mazda based Ranger over there. Powered by a 2.3 Turbo Ecoboos from the Mustang. Putting out 270hp.

On face value this seems interesting. 6.8 sec 0-60mph while still offering 23mpg combined (US gallons. So nearer to 25mpg imperial).

Wonder if we will see the petrol here in the UK? It’s certainly the engine many would have liked to have seen in the Raptor.

The USA doesn’t get the Raptor version. Although they do get the FX4 with a rear locker. And pics on the US website show Fox shocks. So apart from the styling side of the Raptor I don’t know how different it really is.

However, this review doesn’t seem to sing the Ranger’s praises at all:

I’ve not been in a modern F-150. But it makes you wonder just how good they are if they are not liking the Ranger.

Well timed post !!, I've been looking at full size pickups today , second hand 3.5 ecoboost F150 and new and used dodge rams
with the hemi my take on it is the ranger sized trucks we get here are great daily driving workhorses the Merican full size trucks
drive better have more power but are just a bit too big!! 2 inches wider than a range rover !!
OK if its a 2nd vehicle and you can chose the journey and have an alternative to go into town with for instance , great for comfort and towing seem to hold their value ..... horses for courses and all that ...

The current Ranger has nothing to do with being based on a Mazda, it was a Ford clean sheet exercise. The BT50 is based on the Ranger, you could say. After the 2.2 and 3.2, we are getting the 2.0 diesel versions. A bit of a step back IMHO, even though they’ll suggest it makes more torque and power everywhere than the 3.2. Early adopters in the Aus market will suggest otherwise.

My bad. Wiki reads as though it is still a Mazda/Ford truck.
