I've been fancying a Jeep Grand Cherokee in V8 flavour. In the £4-6,000 bracket you can get good condition late WJs with the HO 4.7. Or a 120,000 mile WK 4.7 (not HO bizarrely) or 5.7.

Which is going to be best at sitting around and getting used at weekends and in the winter. Fuel economy not important for 2,000 miles a year so I really don't want the hassle or lack of boot space of LPG.

I would love a 5.7, just because I've never had one so big! wink But the WK looks a lot more complicated than a WJ... And I think the WK looks better, I think...

Do either of them suffer from corrosion? Most MOT histories seem to show corroded brake pipes but not much more than that.

It will not be doing any serious off roading, so 300bhp/ton - no lift kits, snorkels or winches!

Over to you...

Probably best to go drive them and see what you prefer.

I remember driving a HO 4.7, must have bee back in the late 90's. Brand new from the dealership. It felt very rapid for the time, much quicker than a 4.6 V8 Range Rover.

The WK is a next gen vehicle, IFS and quite different. Bit like comparing a Disco 2 to a 3.

The WJ will feel more "4x4" of you know what I mean. I have seen a few with rust on the front arches/wing, so maybe something to look out for.

I had a WJ4.7 not H/O but pretty quick all the same and it felt absolutely unstoppable and sounder great.

went from 38kmiles to 110kmiles no issues - just a lot of juice.

look out for leaky rear halfshaft seals, diff wine.

Mine didnt rust at all - very well built.

I hope to be back in a Jeep soon so let us know how you get on....
