Finally made my mind up that i want a cheapish 4x4 again after many years without one, last one was a series 2 LR and the new Jimny looks like a decent replacement be it with some creature comforts..

Not much info as yet but square looks have me sold and 1.0 turbo/1.2/1.4 petrol seem to be available engines, wont be my everyday car so speed not important but small and rugged for some dirty action will be what i want it for..

Anyone else got there eye on one...

looks like a great little 4x4, surprised they stuck with solid axles tbh, for once they must have listened to customers.

new defender isnt even body-on-frame so not much hope for solid axles i wouldnt think.

jimny bit small for me so all being well one of these will be replacing my defender (pile of ste) this year (toyota grj79 for anyone interested)

Looks like a pic from the 1970s but that is no bad thing if rugged/utilitarian is what you want...

The wishbone set up on the Discovery 3/4 is far from 'stty' as you call it.

Also, rumours suggest that the new Defender will be based on the old D4 platform, so it looks like you will be stuck with the wishbones.

As for the Jimney, I think they are pretty good. Bit cramped though and actually too small for my needs.

Nah not my problem I need a 4x4 , so landrover isn't on my shopping list ...
jimny would be a toy I would say its the 4x4 equivalent of a MX5 ...

These are still being sold new in certain markets aren't they? Good on Toyota if that's the case.

Yes Japan ,africa with 6 pot petrol and diesels , Australia gets them with the V8 diesel like the 200 series ... one the few with a proper ladder chassis , the original 4x4 maker uses them too ...

I've seen a brand new on in Toyota dealership in Oman recently. Equivalent to £34000

can import a from japan a 2015 model with 4L V6, manual gearbox, triple lockers and only 5000kms for around £26000+vat on the road in the UK, so say £27500 with an LPG conversion. No-brainer for me, even if i wasnt fussed about the solid axle, toyota arent selling the 2.8L hilux here and all the other pickups on the market are unreliable junk once past 150k miles (or 1 mile in the case of landrover).
