Kumho KL71 or Cooper STT Pro ?

What sort of mud, how often and on what vehicle?
Personally not impressed with the KL-71's at all. More aggressive AT than MT IMO. And easily get out of their depth in wet mud.
And none too impressed by them on the road either. Chops the shoulders off them.
Not run the STT Pro's yet. But I admit I do like the look of them. And they have sipes which is a good thing for UK roads.
Other MT's of similar ilk I'd consider (in no particular order):
-Maxxis Bighorn MT762 and MT764. Both have sipes and I like the whitewall writing.

On a Mitsubishi Shogun, off road probably 3 days a weeks, towing trailers / horse box across wet grass /boggy peat moors etc.
The wear rate on the Kumho was a concern - had a few people mention that they are more AT then MT.But I'm sure would be better than my current General Grabber AT2 in mud. Not heard that the shoulders are prone to wear with to road use. A little annoying as the local tyre place is a Kumho stockist and has given me a very good rate fitted.
Think Cooper STT pro are the fav at the moment as they are a newer designed tyre.

Hi, have got a set of 265 75 16 Khumo Kl-71's on my 90 which i have found to be brilliant all round, perform very well at CCV trails in all conditions and are showing minimal signs of wear after around mixed 5000 road miles.
Found at the last CCV down at 20 psi they were mostly keeping up with the insa turbo-simex style tyres (within reason) + they don't tear up wet grass as bad as most MT's ive used.
On road they are a little noisy but its a old tdi 90 so cant expect much, however the biggest surprise on road was the big improvement in ride quality compared to the old HK dynapro's, along with it feeling more planted towing.
I honestly cant recommend them enough and finally they don't sequel when um pushing on! the 265 width does help i think!

Found at the last CCV down at 20 psi they were mostly keeping up with the insa turbo-simex style tyres (within reason) + they don't tear up wet grass as bad as most MT's ive used.

Are you sure that's a CCV trial? Never seen a CCV motor running tyres like those. There are a few in our local club who RTV with them. Just comparing to these, you can see the KL-71 is never going to really keep with them.
Not a great pic, but the green 90 is my Uncles and running KL-71's
Now I'm not saying they are rubbish. But compared to the other tyres we've run (which is a lot), I think they rank as the most disappointing.
Can supply pics running on other wheels if you like. But between myself, my brother and my uncle, we have a shed full of different Land Rover tyres. Including Toyo Open Country MT's and the earlier tread, Geolanders, BFG MT's, BGF AT's, STT's, Silverstone MT-117 Sports, a few different diamonds, Recip Trail, Recip Maxi 3D, Simex Jungle Trekker, XCL, XZL, MTR, various Fedmia, Dirt Devils and quite a few others.

Always great fun and a variety of tyres being used from cooper stt's to BFG Km2 and the more extreme insa turbo's etc so good to compare. Then how a tyre works can vary a lot between different peoples driving styles, I tend to go for high gear low revs as I have to drive it home at the end of the day! They might just suit me in how they work, shame you found them disappointing but hey good we are all different and as mentioned I think they are very sensitive to the pressures used.
Anyway good to have a choice, and good for you to have them all at your disposal I thought it was good having a set of General Grabber at's for road work as spares until they went on the disco!

BTW - CCV events normally require a full MSA spec roll cage and having the vehicle MSA logged booked.
Although maybe it depends on the event organiser.
As for tyres, they are very terrain sensitive too. And some parts of the UK the mud is very different. Where I live, even tyres more extreme than the KL-71's will struggle when it's wet, while some super extreme tyres will be fine. And regular MTs like the KL-71's and BFG MT's won't get you anywhere.

I've used Kumho KL71 for years (and over 30,000 miles out of this set). Certainly any tyre will struggle in mud - Worcestershire clay is pretty evil (construction plant near me has clogged tracks or tyres after rain) but they have always got me to my destination with the minimum of fuss.
It would be great to afford to replace the whole set with something new but as I've had no problems with them I'll buy another pair before we get too far into winter.
