Guys, what is the form here, I was out on the mountain bike at the weekend, cycling along a byway from west chisenbury, at the top of the hill the track passes a barn that the military use for training, only this time they had surrounded their camp with razor wire which blocked the track.
I understand that they need to be able to train but there are huge areas that have no public access, the wire was next to a sign that showed the track as a byway, have they ignored it or are they within their powers?

Tricky one.
Either the byway was open and it's a bit naughty to block it (even as part of an exercise) or, and don't take this the wrong way) you'd strayed in to a closed area being used for training.
If it's the former, might be worth a phone call to MoD Police or similar (GIYF), or even go back and ask to speak to the DS running the exercise. One possibility is they were foreign troops, unfamiliar with training in areas shared with the public.
If it's the latter, just take it on the chin and move on.

Where about exactly? A lot of the tracks are restricted byeways and I believe the Military have the right to remove access. I am on the other side of the Plain at Shipton Bellinger and am often out your way on my Mtn Bike wavey

Depends where. The military have the right to temporarily close rights of way. We're lucky on the Plain that they let us share access. Try visiting Sennybridge Ranges!

Its the track underneath "west chisenbury" on your map, there is a barn part way along it before it reaches the perimeter track which the army use for training.

I tend to avoid that track, it's bloody steep. smile

I've only been out a couple of times, it's a lovely bit of kit, am planning on a longer ride round the back of Tidworth tonight.
