Hey guys I've recently bought my first 4wd a 1985 Toyota Landcruiser FJ70. Love the thing it's like a goat and climbs anything however it keeps clogging the fuel filter. I put on one last weekend and this weekend it's clogged again. I'm gonna drop the tank and change the hose but what should I use to flush the tank.

Any other ideas on what could be causing it to keep clogging?

Sounds like contaminated petrol or some rubber hoses rotting or rust from the tank itself the other posibilty is the neck that goes to the filler cap is rotten and alowing muck in ,
flush it with clean fuel but work safely !!!!

As previously mentioned, it sound like it might be time to flush the petrol tank... especially if the previous owner was filling it up from manky jerry cans.

It's probably worth disconnecting the fuel lines and blowing them out with compressed air from both ends.

What's it clogging with? Bits of rubber from a hose failing? Bits of flaky ex-steel from an internally rotting tank? Bits of paint from an attempt to seal the tank? Dead sheep?

I go back to the eylandt tomorrow and will get the tank out this weekend.

It is clogging with dirt and sand.

Didn't think of the filler neck!

Got the tank out. Was a bit of nightmare really and to make matters worse the tank is rusting from the inside out. The sender unit is all corroded and the sides of tank are actually quite bad. The bottom is OK. I've cleaned it out best I can but I'm gonna try get another tank.

Save yourself a lot of headache and try to find a new tank.
There are many products and services that promise to get the rust removed and the tank sealed but in my experience none of them last longer than 2-3 years. Then they start to rust again or even worse, the sealant comes off and clogs your fuel line/filter or even carbs.
Top the tank up before you park the car for extended periods to prevent it from happening in the future. Good luck.
