Isuzu DMAX and new NP300 Navara - Experiences?
Discussion
Hey Guys,
Just after some thoughts on a few different crew cab pickups. I am looking to purchase one through my business.
I am very taken with the new Navara which handles just like a car. Was very impressed on the test drive. It has 5 link rear suspension rather than leaf like most pickups so the ride is excellent and official MPG combined is 44mpg. Im looking at the 2.3 Twin Turbo 190 Tekna model.
I dont suppose anyone on here has one already or has some inside knowledge. Is it likely to be reliable?
My other option is a year or two old Isuzu Dmax Utah. Also liked this on the test drive though it is slightly bouncier and they only claim a 39mpg combined figure. Anyone got anything good or bad to say about these?

Own a Dmax eiger, had it 4 months from new, great so far, don't know if it's relevant but can tow 3.5t, not many others do, also has 5 year warranty. I'm definitely not getting 38mpg, nearer to 28, do a fair bit of towing and short journeys.
Having said that, I bought it to replace a 110 Defender so probably not the best to judge

All double cab Navaras can drag 3.5t, right from the D22. Plus 5 year warranty, there really isn't much between them now.Having said that, I bought it to replace a 110 Defender so probably not the best to judge
Had a D22 from new but very tempted by the new NP300 so watching these threads, although mine went into the dealers last week for a service they did tell me to wait 12 months and see what occurs on them as by then any problems, niggles would've arisen at the dealers.

I'm pretty sure your info on the older Navaras tow capacity is incorrect.Had a D22 from new but very tempted by the new NP300 so watching these threads, although mine went into the dealers last week for a service they did tell me to wait 12 months and see what occurs on them as by then any problems, niggles would've arisen at the dealers.

Dmax was the first pick up to tow 3.5 tonne, pretty sure the only two still are, the Dmax and the larger engined Ranger. I saw a write up on the Mitsubishi quoting a load of 4.1 tonne, this equates to 3.1 towing and a tonne payload, this causes confusion with some people. Isuzu certainly made a big thing of being the first. This is what stopped me buying one in the past as I need the 3.5t towing and nobody did it. Just got a new L200 and very pleased with it.
Rides a lot better than previous versions, comparable to the Navara, as previously mentioned L200 can carry 4.1 tonnes in total, tow 3.1 tonnes and 990kg in the bed, most of the others can't take much more than 3-400kg in the bed when towing the full 3.5t. Each to their own anyway.
Besides which the L200 came out best on a Business Contract hire at ~£235/month on a 3+35 lease, none of the others came even close.

Have you read the NCAP report on the new L200? Only slightly worrying, especially the airbag failing to inflate to sufficient pressure to stop the driver's head hitting the steering wheel.Rides a lot better than previous versions, comparable to the Navara, as previously mentioned L200 can carry 4.1 tonnes in total, tow 3.1 tonnes and 990kg in the bed, most of the others can't take much more than 3-400kg in the bed when towing the full 3.5t. Had a dmax on an extended test drive recently, towed well, even with bang on 3.5t behind it, just struggled with traction a bit setting off but that was probably as much to do with the poorly loaded trailer as anything else. Only thing i didnt particuarly like was the clutch and gearbox, seemed more agricultural than my defender!
Well, in the end I went for the NP300! Had it about 3 months now and I love it to bits!
Towed a few things about with it now and its brilliant!
I went into Mitsubishi and spoke to them about the L200 but they couldn't come close to the Nissan price and also didn't take me at all seriously. Told me he would get back to me and didn't. Their loss.

Had a test of the new Ranger and the Navara NP300 and the Navara won hands down in my eyes, my smoother engine curver, much more drivable, interior also better. I'm getting a Navara. Only question remains what's the best option for a hardtop, the dealer prices are ridiculous!
I've ordered the Aeroklas lift up window hardtop. Completely overpriced as they all are but its a pain in the arse not having one. I did buy a 2007 hardtop to see if I could make it fit but it was WAY off.
