Hi all

I have got to the point of being a bit lost with the various off road options available on the 2nd hand market for under 10k.

I have a wife, 3 boys and a dog. I want to be able to use the vehicle for standard camping, remote camping, green laning, fishing trips, carrying bikes/kayaks etc. I have a day car so this would be more for recreational summer /some winter use. The vehicle obviously needs quite a lot of luggage space.

I also want something which we can travel as a family in relative comfort on the motorway to get to our destination (so ruling our defenders). We are on the UK south coast but would like to venture into the depths of Scotland for example.

A Land Rover Discovery ticks most of the boxes but I keep getting scared off with reliability issues. Crew cab trucks have also been looked at but not great for carrying dogs in the no boot etc. Other I have looked at include Nissan Patrol, Land Cruisers etc.

Your top 3 advice would be amazing!

Thanks smile

Mine would be (I have 2 boys + o/h. Got dogs but they don't come away.)

Nissan Patrol (Currently own one and it's great.)
Toyota Land Cruiser 120 LC3 (no crappy air suspension and locking diff's etc. Looking to replace the Patrol with one.)
Nissan Pathfinder (little brother of the Patrol. Great offroader and less expensive for a new model.)

It's a long shot, but we've had two x trails ,depends on how heavy your green landing is,but personally speaking they have been faultless and both been taken over 100 k miles

I'd probably go for a 3ltr touareg, great on road, enough ability for a bit of dirt & they seem to be reliable-ish

Pickup with rear canopy and boot splitter would seem the best option?

Can buy an almost new Great Wall Steed for that money too if you're brave enough.

In the early Naughties ran a 300 TDI '96 Disco for several years without issue (bar the silly dashboard warping). Sure you could get a more recent and reliable TD5 and still have a contingency fund wink
