I'm going to do an oil change on my NAG1 box (Mercedes 5 speed auto)

There is the genuine Mercedes "approved" oil you can buy. They state Shell 3403 in the hand book. I've searched the net that but cant find it, so I guess its down to the Mercedes dealer, who BTW wont give official advice at the counter on Mercedes products found in Jeeps. The local jeep dealer told me they use Petronius oil ?

There are aftermarket alternatives (Valvoline from Euro parts) that say are "recommended" for this gearbox, but not "approved" by Mercedes. The USA forums are full of arguments as to weather these should be used or not. Only use Official approved oils and be safe.....

So anyone done this task and what oil did you use ?

Can you find out the specification of the approved oil and then just buy any brand of transmission oil that meets that spec

I'll go with the merc oil of ebay.
Its not much dearer than other brands, and you get some peace of mind !
