Hi all, have noticed that when in 4wd (H4 - haven't checked L4) and turning to the right, a braking effect occurs. It doesn't happen when turning left. On full lock to the right it's really quite noticeable.
Any ideas what's causing this? Is it normal?
DON`T use 4wd on dry tarmac !Any ideas what's causing this? Is it normal?
Which model Prado are you talking about, 70 series, 90 series or 120 series?
I'm going to guess you're talking about the 70series as you mention putting it into 4wd in which case the poster above is right, what you're most probably feeling is transmission wind up from driving it in 4wd on a grippy surface.

Normally the drive is split 50/60, when in H4 and low the drive is split 50/50. In h4 you should not notice any difference and the same in low other than the ratio is low. As you own a prado which does not have a rear diff lock but is equipped with an LSD, it maybe worth checking your lsd, if that's ok check the front diff.
Some garages/ owners do not relise it has a rear lsd, and when replacing the oil they use the wrong type, causing them the lsd to fail.
