2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
Discussion
Hi All,
Does anyone here have a 2012 - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland or Summit?
I'm seriously considering one. I've had LR Defender, Disco 4, RR Evoque and RRS all without issues but tempted now by the Jeep.
So any comments from owners would be appreciated please - what they are like to live with.
Cheers.

Some guy a work has one, company car no doubt.
£450 ? notes a year to tax it is a put off, unless someone else pays !
Well not £450, that's part of the attraction: The new diesel does circa 37mpg and has a CO2 of 198g and attracts £265 road tax. £450 ? notes a year to tax it is a put off, unless someone else pays !

If he has the SRT 6.4L V8 then it would be £500. If he has the 3.0 V6 Diesel with new 8 speed then only £265. the diesel is what I'm looking at. Test drive on Monday. But thats good news, what size lump do they use now for the Diesel ?
We run several of these on our lease fleet. They do look very nice, have a good spec and seem reasonably well built, although some of the plastics are poor.
Driving wise, a reasonable drive - comfortable, and generally OK.
Reliability wise, we have had a few minor issues - sensor faults and electrical gremlins, but nothing serious or left anyone stranded.
In comparison to a Disco 4, I would take the Disco - better built, nicer drive, better quality interior etc. They Jeep does appear to be good value though.

Thanks - valuable info there. Driving wise, a reasonable drive - comfortable, and generally OK.

This is what I'm thinking will be the case so you have confirmed. I've had the Disco 4 and it is a terrific vehicle. I am wanting a new RR Sport but cannot justify it at the moment and also cannot justify my 911 sitting in my garage being an ornament. So I'm selling my 911 and X-Trail and getting another 4x4 but a stepping stone to the RRS. I'm looking at another older (2013) RRS or the Jeep and the Jeep seems great value with the large discounts offered - £7k off list seems the norm. Plus 3 years servicing and low tax, decent mpg and it could be a winner as a package.
Well, took the plunge and ordered a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit today. I opted for the Summit because I think the leather interior better matches the 2011 RRS I had and is easily a match for the Disco 4.
I could have gone for another Disco 4 - and I rate them very highly - but I prefer the Jeep's road manners on tarmac as it doesn't have nearly as much body roll and yet can deal with the rough stuff equally as well. The Disco is more versatile with a larger boot space and 7 seats but since I don't require that really, I think the Jeep will be a nice change from years of LR's.

I've got a 2012 Overland and I think that it's fantastic! I had a 2006 Overland previously which I really liked but few people agreed. This one is totally different. Much more of a "luxury" feel to it but it's still very competent off road and a great long distance cruiser. It's economical, quick, (for what it is), cheap to run and something a bit different.
I hope that you enjoy it. I'm sure that you will!

I have an older Jeep Grand Cherokee as my daily driver and would highly recommend them to anyone, I've had a Range Rover and Discovery before but the Jeep always returns better mpg and has had fewer issues, just a few minor electrical gremlins all easily fixed, stuff like rear speakers not working and a rear electric window, all down to breaks in the wiring between the door and the B pillar, they are doing too tight a turn. Otherwise, brilliant motor and I'd happily buy another.
I guess you've had your Grand Cherokee for a few weeks now - what do you think? Also, what colour did you go for? I'm looking at ordering one in the next few days (to replace an Evoque which is a bit too small). It looks good value compared to a Discovery.
