My Defender (pic in profile) wears Goodrich 285/75 Mud Terrains, a bit worn but perfectly legal and not worn to below the 'change now' ridges. I was driving down a dual carriageway at about 35 mph, went over a bump and BANG! My right rear tyre blew-out in a big way, like someone had taken a saw and tried to cut off all the tread.
Anyway, my local tyre place does not stock Goodrich, but are offering me 285/75r16 M/T Bridgestones.
Any views on the Bridgestones? Good, worse, same as Goodrich?
Cheers!
PS - changing those bds, on a busy dual carriageway, on a hill, with a hi-lift jack, is a pretty good work-out!
PPS - although most of my driving is on tarmac, when I go off road it is in a big muddy slippy way so prefer MTs.

I can't comment on the tyres.
But I would guess the blown tyre was old and probably stored badly - possibly before you bought it.
Check the dot code on the tyre to see the age - check the other tyres too.
It may be time to swap all of them.
I had a similar thing happen to me several years back when I rotated in a spare tyre.
The spare tyre failed spectacularly and destroyed half the back quarter of the car.
About 18" of tread detached, but was attached just at on end, it span round with the tyre smashing the wheel arch.
