Im hoping I can get some options and advice on here !
Im looking for a 4X4 and was looking at the D22 nivara and looking to get one with a recon engine with better con rod bolts in but now after delving a bit deeper ive read the rear axle brakes on them and the timing chain has a problem also !! Thought about the ranger but are a bit bland but seem to do the job. Ive even thought about a disco TD5 but they have probs aswell.
What is there I might beable to get without big money problems ??? I don't mind small odd problems but I want reliability and a bit of comfort when driving it and something that isn't too sluggish when towing my car trailer etc. Im looking to spend around £4500 ish.
Landcruisers, surfs, XC90, patrol, terano etc ! Ive considered all frown Any help would be greatly appreciated !

All of them can be good, all can be bad.
For every person who had one and drove thousands of miles without a problem you'll find someone who had one that was constantly breaking

A week maintained and loved example of any of them should be fine.

Personally, I'd recommend a 3.0l third gen Hilux Surf for that money.

Check the Surf I can't remeber which engine it is but one has a truely poor head gasket that is prone to failing. A quick google suggests it's the 2.4 IIRC the gasket for the hilux version of the engine is a direct replacement and better.

Yep the 2.4 surf suffer head gasket problems.
I had the 2nd gen surf 3.0l and it was great but I was hoping for a double cab pickup so I can throw big stuff in the back if needed and stand my mountain bike or motor bike up in it.
I have been looking a few times at the 3rd gen tbh as I know they will be bullit proof. I like the TD5s even though I know I wont get a bike in the back of it but sometimes when on a budget you have to get 2nd best ! The early navara up to a 51 plate have different engines and are suppose to be very strong and reliable but not sure about the axle or other things that might be a weak point.
Its a mine field out here :/

With the seats down the third gen surf load bay is longer than most pickups.
You'd have trouble with a motorbike. But I've had two mountain bikes + kit in the back of mine.

The 3l engine is pretty damned reliable.
Like all old 4x4 it's worth checking/replacing the bushes when you vuy one.

Shogun. You'll get a minter early Mk3 (2000 on) for £4500. Mine has had a really tough life and nothing has broken that isn't entirely age related.

theres a few for sale. they all belonged to the enviroment agency, fsh detailing every job thats ever been carried out, whirly fresh air thing on the roof and hot water heater/wash basin on the inside of the tailgate, they also come as permanent 4 wheel drive so theres no messing on with selecting it, with it being the commercial they only have 2 seats and a full mesh bulkhead, perfect for what i want it for

If only i could find a way to get round the stupid suspension setup and give it a lift for some proper offroading

Ah, the Pinin. Cracking wee things. Been there, had that, and managed to get it lifted.

On android so cant really type it out, but have a dig back in this forum and I explained how I did it.
